With it’s 12.000 inhabitants you wouldn’t think Mende is an urban important city – but you’re wrong.  Mendes location has made it the center of the Lozere departement and it is strategically placed between Lyon and Toulouse. This also makes it easily accessible for tourists. There is also a train station in the city, and the train ride from Montpellier is scenic and well worth the trip.

Around 21 August every year there is a big festival celebrating Saint Privat. There is also a beer festival in September.

There’s a few hotels in Mende, we would recommend Hotel de France, which also have a great restaurant.
