Alpes-de-Haute-Provence is in the northern part of the Provence area. As the name predicts it is a mountainous department going into the southern part of the Alpes.

For tourists the most spectacular thing to see is the Gorges du Verdon, Europe’s Grand Canyon. As well as dramatic landscapes, there is a lot possibilities for outdoor sports and adventures.  There is a lot of beautiful small villages in Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. The capital is the charming village Digne-les-Bains, which is famous for its spas.
